Max Headshots London

FAQ

Presenting yourself professionally has never been more important. Headshots used to be mainly for actors or CEOs but now everyone could use a great photo of themselves for many purposes such as Linkedin, corporate web sites and social media.

Have you had pictures taken by a professional photographer with £5000-worth of soft studio lighting? Were you directed to accentuate your best features? Were the photos skilfully edited to give you beautiful finished images? You owe it to yourself to have professional photos done.

50% of communication is non-verbal. Your thoughts and emotions shine through in subtle ways on your face. If there’s nothing going on in your mind, such as when you come in for a shoot and sit down, people will often have a blank expression. Max will be chatting with you, snapping away until we get you back to your normal state of engagement so the photos capture the “real you”.

You may be pleasantly surprised. A photoshoot can be fun! You will be directed to be the best possible version of you using an empathetic and fun approach.

All our photos are carefully edited before being shared. We deliver quality images you’ll be proud to show. Spots are easy to remove during editing so don’t worry, still come along!

This is where the skill of a professional photographer comes in. Camera angle, the way the head and body are positioned, how clothing is adjusted, all these can make a difference. The photos will be recognisably You (the whole point of a headshot after all) but we’ll ensure you look your best.

Neutral colours with no logos are best for clothing. For portrait shoots, bring as many outfits as you can so we have options. Neat hair looks better in photos even if normally you have a more natural look.

Men

For men, get a haircut, trim beards / shave.

Women

For women, as well as hair, subtle make-up is essential to get the best results even if you prefer a natural look normally. Ask someone who is good at make-up to do this for you if you’re not confident. It really does make a difference!

Glasses wearers

If you want to be photographed wearing glasses, bring all your pairs as depending on the lighting angle they will reflect light differently.

A headshot session is designed for busy professionals who need a great picture of themselves. This takes 30 mins max, often quicker, to get a great shot of you which will edited and sent to you within 48 hours. The actors studio (apologies to Lee Strasberg)  allows for more creativity, wardrobe and background changes and customised lighting for the looks you wish to portray. Headshots are at our Hammersmith studio. The actors studio is normally at our Hammersmith studio but can be at your home or on location within the M25. A £150 travel & setup fee applies for shoots away from our Hammersmith studio.

When you arrive, we’ll have a quick chat with you to understand your objectives for the shoot. We use soft flattering light which looks good on anyone. Most of us aren’t professional models so you will be directed to look your best. We’ll assess your best side and photograph you on that side. The photos pop up on a laptop screen so you get instant feedback as the session progresses. You select your favourite image(s) during the shoot which are then professionally edited and sent to you.

Yes, we have spaces for you to change and check yourself in the mirror before the shoot. During the shoot, we have a small hand-mirror which can come in handy for final adjustments.

Yes we do! The 30-min headshot sessions have a white/light grey background but the 2-hour Portrait sessions can be against a variety of backdrops such as deep red, blue, black, grey and grey/blue painted canvas. White is the classic, versatile and neutral choice. Other colours can look amazing but need to be matched up with clothing and the intended mood for the shot.

Max will have a chat on Zoom before the chat to note your requirements such as brand identity, the backdrop to be used, the location and the people to be photographed. On the day, we will arrive early to set up. All that is required is an average-sized or preferably large meeting room with all chairs and tables cleared from it and the ability to turn the lights off. Our lighting studio is fully portable and setup will take about an hour. The half-day shoot will last 3 hours of actual shooting time and the full-day will be two 3-hour shoots with an hour’s break for lunch. At the shoot, each subject will choose an image they prefer while viewing the laptop screen. Max will take a photo of them holding a card with the file number of that image. Finished images will be delivered within five working days of settlement of the final invoice via bank transfer or credit card.

Yes we do! Change of hairstyle or just fancy getting some new shots done? 25% refund of the booking fee paid back to you on the day of the shoot if you book again with us for a portrait or headshot within 12 months.

During the shoot, you will select your favourite images which will then be edited to create the finished images. Max’s editing style is to make many subtle improvements while still keeping everything looking natural. Every image can be enhanced with subtle improvements.

We want you to be delighted with your images! The photos pop up on a laptop screen during the headshot session.  You’ll be able to see the results on screen and we stop shooting when we get shots we’re both happy with. So this shouldn’t be an issue. If for any reason, you’re unhappy with your finished photos when you receive them, email Max with specific reasons why you’re not happy and he’s call you to  resolve the situation. Normally this is just a matter of an additional retouch to one of the shots which is of course free for charge.

The RAW files which come straight out of camera are like photographic negatives which need to be developed to create the finished image.  During the shoot, the images pop on the screen and you select your favourites. To ensure the highest quality, we only send our clients their favourite images that have been professionally colour-balanced and retouched. If you have trouble choosing your favourites during the session, we can make the unedited shots available for you to view online so you can select the pictures you would like retouched and sent to you as finished images.
